Hi, and welcome to the Les bears dot com podcast.

This podcast is for extensive English listening.

So, every day I'll make a new podcast about a different topic.

That way you can hear lots of different vocabulary and you don't have to listen too long.

Two or three minutes at best.

Hi, welcome to the Les Paris dot com podcast.

Today.

You're listening to episode 280.

I'm gonna talk about rechargeable batteries.

I remember when rechargeable batteries first came out, they were big.

They were gonna save the world, save the environment.

We went out and we bought some, the trouble was they were a pain in the neck to recharge and they didn't last very long.

Their lives got consistently shorter and shorter and they were more expensive than regular batteries.

I don't use re rechargeable batteries or do I? I'm filming this on my smartphone right now and my smartphone has a rechargeable battery in it.

Yeah, there's a rechargeable battery in there.

That's interesting.

I wonder what else has? Uh, my computer has a rechargeable battery.

Cool cars have rechargeable batteries.

I bet you there's some flashlights with rechargeable batteries too.

I think that.

There's a lot of things with rechargeable batteries all around us and we're using them on a daily basis.

They're good.

I don't need to go out and buy new batteries which are terrible for the environment.

If you throw old batteries in the landfill, they break and poisonous toxic products go into the land and into the environment.

If you burn them, all the toxic products go into the air and they come down in rain, rechargeable batteries prevent all that tox toxic waste going into the environment again for some time.

Eventually they become defunct and we have to recycle them.

And that's the key word.

If you recycle them, then they're good.

If you throw them in the garbage, it's really bad because batteries have a lot of really bad things in them.

I won't go into the scientific details here at any rate.

Let's hope that they keep making better batteries that last longer and recharge more times so that we don't have to use these horrible for the environment batteries.

I think that's the key to the future and I want to keep on using electrical.

Uh I uh things like my cell phone and my electric car and whatnot.

I like rechargeable batteries.

Thanks for listening."
